If you teach the middle and high school age group, you have probably noticed that as children grow into their tween and teen years, their actions become increasingly irrational. Now we know science has pinned this down to the fact that humans do not have a fully developed frontal cortex (the area of the brain responsible for rational thought) until our mid-twenties, but I feel this alone does not fully explain the issue. After all, why is it that younger kids often seem to have more sense than their older peers? Well, I heard a quote recently (author unknown) that seems to hit it spot on, so we created a cartoon meme that encapsulates this truth. (I say we because it is actually my daughter, an aspiring cartoonist herself, that did the drawings for this one. She, by the way, is in fact a teen herself, so pray for me you all!!!!)
Why teens are so weird!
